Spicy raw banana curry recipe / Plantain curry recipe / How to make raw banana curry / Kacche kele ki sabji

Raw banana or Kaccha kela  is also known as Plantain . Here, I am sharing a very quick and easy recipe of spicy plantain curry . Whenever I buy plantains , I usually make plantain curry this way . This recipe is again another easy recipe like my other recipes . Here Ingredients are very simple and easily available in kitchen as well.

Plantains are easily available in local markets and supermarkets. However it gives me a good alternate for lunch box . Everyone in my family loves to eat plantain curry .

In this recipe , I am using two bananas that will be sufficient to make curry for 2-3 people . For this recipe , we need to peel the raw bananas and chop them into rounds. After chopping, keep them immersed in water until we start cooking . Keeping plantain chunks in water will not let them get dark . Rest of the cooking process , I will share in recipe below.

Plantain or raw banana curry goes well with chapatis or parathas or with dal-rice .

Similar recipes are as follows :

Ingredients

  • Raw bananas or plantains 2
  • Oil 4 tbs
  • Onion thinly chopped 1 medium
  • Tomato chopped 1 medium
  • Green chillies chopped 2
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp or as per taste
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water approx. 1 cup or as required
  • Cilantro or coriander leaves finely chopped 2 tbs

Method

Wash and peel the plantains. Plantain peel should be removed completely. Cut them into round pieces.

Next , heat 2 tbs oil in a kadai or pan. Sauté plantain pieces in oil for 2-3 min on low-medium  heat or until they get lightly toasted on edges.

Take the plantain pieces out and keep it aside.

Add more 2 tbs oil in the same pan or kadai . Once oil is hot , add  chopped onion .Sauté onion until it gets light brown.

Add green chillies and sauté for few seconds.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook them until it gets mushy.

Add coriander powder, garam masala , turmeric powder and red chilli powder.

Add  little water so that spices will not get burn.

Saute the spices until it starts leaving the oil .

Add shallow fried plantain pieces in spices. Mix them very well so that plantain pieces should be covered with spices.

Add around 1 cup of water and add salt as per taste. While adding salt you have to be little careful because as we cook the curry , gravy gets thickened little bit.

Mix the curry well and cook with lid on.

We will cook the curry for another 10-15 min. or until plantain pieces get cooked completely and gravy turns little thick.
If you do not prefer thick gravy , add little bit more water to get desired consistency. If adding more water let it come to a boil.

Once the curry is done , add chopped cilantro or coriander leaves and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Spicy raw banana curry is ready to be served with chapatis or parathas.

Enjoy !
