Homemade Mac and Cheese | How to make Mac and Cheese at home | Mac and Cheese Recipe
Homemade Mac and Cheese is a classic recipe prepared with macaroni (elbow pasta) and creamy sauce made with flour, milk, butter and cheese.Mac and Cheese is a very popular comfort food among kids because it is very creamy, smooth and delicious.
This Mac and Cheese recipe is incredibly easy and this is how I love to prepare Mac and Cheese at home. In this recipe , I used mild sharp cheddar cheese. So it is totally up to your preference. Any cheese that melts well works excellent with Mac and Cheese.
Ingredients
- Macaroni or Elbow pasta 2 cups
- Sharp Cheddar Cheese 1 cup
- Unsalted butter 1 tbs
- All purpose flour 2 tbs
- Milk 1.5 cups
- Black pepper powder 1/4 tsp
- Onion powder 1/2 tsp (optional)
- Garlic powder 1/4 tsp (optional)
- Salt 1/2 tsp (according to taste)
Method
- Boil 4 cups of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Add macaroni or elbow pasta. Cook the macaroni until soft . Drain the pasta and keep it aside.
- Melt butter in a pan. Here I used unsalted butter. If you want you can use salted butter too but be careful while adding salt later.
- Add flour into the pan and stir until combined well. Keep whisking for few seconds until light golden.
- Add half of the milk and whisk continuously until mixture is smooth and begins to thicken. Continue whisking until smooth.
- Add onion powder and garlic powder . Mix to blend well.
- Gradually, add remaining milk and keep stirring until combined well.
- Add salt and pepper into the sauce and mix well.
- Cook the sauce for a minute or two more.
- Remove the pan from the heat and add grated cheddar cheese.
- Stir the sauce until cheese is melted and smooth.
- Add macaroni into the sauce and mix everything together very well.
- Serve the mac and cheese hot and season with black pepper and bit of fresh parsley.
