So let us start the recipe....

Ingredients

  • Onion 2 big
  • Gram flour or besan 1 cup
  • Green chillies 3
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro finely chopped 1 tbs (optional)
  • Water about 1/2 cup or as required
  • Oil for frying

Method

Cut the onions in thin slices and cut the green chilies .
Add gram flour , salt and cumin seeds in a bowl . Mix it well.

Now add onion slices , green chilies and cilantro (if you want ) in gram flour. I added green chilies later because I made some pakoras without chilli for my son.

Mix the onion slices very well so that onion slices get coated with gram flour.
Now add water little by little around 1/2 cup to make thick batter.

Adding water little by little helps us to  know when we have to stop adding water and your batter will not get thin.
Heat the oil in a kadai (wok) or a deep pan . The oil should be medium hot .
Take the small portion of batter in hand or a spoon and drop into the oil very carefully . You can drop 4-5 fritters or pakoras at a time.

Fry the fritters or pakoras on medium heat until golden . Flip them occasionally while frying.

Once they are golden and evenly cooked, take them out on a paper towel.

Here , onion pakoras are ready to serve with your favorite chutney .
