Poppyseed Halwa / Khus khus Halwa / How to make Khus Khus Halwa / Posta ka Halwa
Poppyseed is also popularly known as Khus Khus or Posta dana in hindi. Poppyseed or Khus Khus Halwa is very delicious as well as nutritious . Poppyseed Halwa is super healthy for new moms as well. Poppyseed is widely used in various curries and kebabs.
This hearty and warm Khus Khus Halwa is my all time favourite especially during winters. This recipe belongs to my mom. She told me the whole process of making Posta ka Halwa.
So here, I am sharing the exact recipe which my mom told me and I follow the same. Simple cooking method and rich flavour make this Khus Khus halwa different from other halwa recipes.
Let us start the recipe....
Ingredients
- Poppyseed or Khus Khus or Posta dana
- Ghee 2 tbs
- Sugar 1/4 cup or according to taste
- Almonds (8-10 for grinding with poppyseed and 2-3 for garnishing)
Method
- Soak the poppyseed in water overnight or for 5-6 hours. We will soak 8-10 almonds as well .
- After overnight or 5-6 hours soaking , rinse the poppyseed in fresh water with a strainer. Let the excess water drain out completely.
- Next , Grind poppyseed and soaked almonds together till you get smooth paste . Add 2-3 tbs water to make grinding easier.
- Slice 2-3 almonds for garnishing.
- In a pan or kadai, heat about 2 tbs ghee . You can add more ghee if you like.
- Add the poppyseed paste in ghee carefully because it splutters little bit.
- Mix the poppyseed paste with ghee and keep stirring on low heat for 15-20 min or until all the moisture present in paste is absorbed and it turns light pink in colour.
- At this point , add sugar and mix it very well.
- Again cook the halwa on low heat for another 5 -10 min. Poppyseed Halwa is ready to serve.
- In this recipe , I did all the cooking on low heat because of two reasons : Poppyseed paste gets stick at the bottom of the pan easily and do not want poppyseed halwa to be browned.
- Serve Poppyseed Halwa with some thinly sliced almonds.
