Besan ka cheela recipe / How to make Besan ka cheela / Besan cheela recipe / How to make vegetable eggless omlette

Today I am sharing one of my favourite breakfasts - Besan ka cheela or you can say eggless vegetable omelette . Besan cheela recipe is a quick , easy and yet delicious recipe.
Besan ka cheela is a gluten free recipe prepared with gram flour and vegetables. Whenever I am tempted to eat something savoury and spicy during those busy morning , Besan ka cheela is a best option to cook. You only  need ingredients ready and a big mixing bowl. Mix all the ingredients together and make cheelas.

Here, In this recipe I have added onion and tomatoes. So it is your choice , any vegetable available in your refrigerator can be added.
Besan cheela can be served with any kind of chutney or ketchup or simply sandwich between two slices of bread and enjoy with a cup of tea.

Lets get to the recipe of Besan ka cheela as follows.

Ingredients

  • Besan or Gram flour 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Red  chilli powder 1/4 tsp
  • Onion thinly chopped 1/4 cup
  • Tomato thinly chopped 1/4 cup
  • Cilantro leaves chopped 2 tbsp.
  • Green chillies thinly chopped 2
  • Salt to taste
  • Water 1 cup
  • Oil as required

Method

Take a big bowl , add  besan or gram flour, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.

Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Next add chopped onion, tomatoes, green chillies and cilantro. Mix them together with dry ingredients.

Add little water at a time and mix the ingredients to make a lump free batter. Overall I added 1 cup of water.

The batter should be in pouring consistency .The batter should not be too thick or too watery.

Heat a tawa or griddle on medium heat and nicely grease with oil.

Once the griddle is hot , reduce the flame to low .

Pour a ladle full of batter and spread it to make round shape cheela. Since my batter has a nice pouring consistency , I start pouring batter from outer edges and batter spread on its own. You just need to spread batter little bit in centre.

I observed the batter prepared with chopped vegetable is little bit difficult to be spread. that is the reason why I prepared the gram flour batter with flowing consistency.

Drizzle some oil on outer edge and then centre of cheela.

Cook the cheela until upper surface of cheela looks dry and edges leave the pan.

Flip the cheela to cook other side. Drizzle few more drops of oil .

Press down cheela with the help of a spatula while cooking other side.

Cook the other side of cheela for 1 min or until it get nice golden colour.

Besan ka cheela is ready to serve. Here I am serving Besan ka cheela with tomato cilantro chutney . It can also be enjoyed with ketchup on side and a cup of tea.

Enjoy.
