Rava Upma is a savoury South Indian breakfast. It is very nutritious and easy to make recipe. Upma and Poha both are two staple breakfast in my home because both the recipes are quick.

Upma is made of Rava or Sooji and in english semolina or creame of wheat. In South India , It is served with chatney . It's my comfort breakfast . We generally have Upma with a cup of tea. 
Rava Upma does't take too much time. If you have roasted rava ready , It hardly takes 20 mins to cook. So I generally roast semolina nd keep it in an air tight container and whenever I want to cook upma ,I use this roasted rava. Even You can make this Rava Upma in a jiffy.
 


This Rava Upma recipe is how I cook it at home. Here I am using carrots and beansto make it more healthy. So This is very good for kids too.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rava or Sooji or Semolina
  •  1 onion
  • 2 green chillies
  • 2 carrots
  • 5-6 beans
  • 2 tbsp oil]
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • 31/2 cup water
  • salt to taste
  • cilantro for garnishing

Method

Heat a pan and add semolina or sooji .

Roast rava for 5-6 min until it changes its color slightly.
Remove rava from heat and transfer it on a plate.
Chop the onion finely
Cut the carrots, beans and chillies diagonally in small pieces.
Heat the oil in same pan.

Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. I am using dried curry leaves here.
When mustard seeds starts crackle , add onion and saute it until it gets translucent.



Add chillies and carrots.

After 2 min , add beans. Saute till soft.

Add turmeric powder and stir it.
Add sooji to veggies and mix it well.

Once rava and veggies are mixed properly , add water little by little with stirring continuously so that ther will be no lumps.

If you add all water at once, your upma will have big lumps. So to avoid this , we add water little by little and keep stirring.
Add salt to taste and mix it well.
Cove the pan.
After 5 min , stir it properly.

After another 8-10 min , add finely chopped cilantro and mix it well.

So here yummy Upma is ready to eat.
You can have it with chatney or plain.

In my home , we love to have upma with finely chopped onion on top.
