Aloo jeera is very simple , quick yet delicious recipe. This is perfect recipe for my weekends when I don't want to cook complete meal like dal rice ,roti and sabzi. This sabzi goes perfectly with roti , paratha , puri and dal-rice.

Even I would say it's just perfect for traveling. If you want to carry some food just pack some aloo jeera with paraths and puris. Even It doesn't spill out of lunch boxes.

Here are the steps for jeera aloo....

Ingredients

  • Potatoes 6-8 medium size
  • Oil 2-3 tbsp
  • Cumin seed 1/2 tbsp
  • Green chillies 2
  • Turmeric powder1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/4 tsp
  • Dry mango powder or amchur powder 1/2 tsp ( optional )
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro for garnishing

Method

Wash and boil the potatoes with enough water.
Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles . Let them cool down.

Peel the boiled potatoes and cut into small pieces.

Heat the oil in a pan . Add jeera and green chilly . I am adding dry red chilly because we don't want too much heat.

When they start crackle , add turmeric powder and  coriander powder. Sprinkle some water otherwise masala get burned.

Add boiled potatoes , add salt and garam masala .

Give it a good mix and add little water about 1/4 cup.
Put the lid on.
When the sabzi start boiling , add dry mango powder.
Stir properly.

Cook the sabzi for 15-20 mins or until all the water is absorbed.

Roast the potatoes for another 5 mins.

Garnish with finely chopped cilantro
