Kala chana / Masala chana / Black chickpeas curry / Sookha kala chana / Dry black chickpea curry


Sookha kala chana is very delicious and spicy curry . Kala chana or desi chana is an excellent source  of protein and very good for growing up kids . So it is a very healthy recipe as well. It is one of my favorite breakfast recipe especially for Sundays . I love to have this dry chickpea curry with soozi halwa or jalebi. Just believe me this combo taste awesome.




Desi chana can be cooked in different ways like curry form or Sookhe or dry which I am going to share. This recipe is very simple and easy . It doesn't take too much time. You can serve these dry kala chana with poori or paratha . Even you can carry kala chana masala for lunch in your tiffin box / lunch box. If you are making kala chana for kids , just skip chillies and decrease the amount of masala as per kid's choice.

Let start our dry kala chana recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dry desi chana or black chana
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 big Onion
  •  11/2 tbsp coriander powder
  • 2 green chillies or 1 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice

Method

Rinse the black chana and soak them for overnight or 7 to 8 hours.


 After  overnight soaking , they would be double in size .

I am going to cook this kala chan in pressure cooker.
Heat oil in pressure cooker.

Add onion and sauté till golden.


Add coriander powder , garam masala, chilli powder and turmeric powder.

Add little water so that masala would not get burned.
Cook masala for 1 min.

Add soaked black chane to this masala.

Add salt to taste.
Give it good mix and add about 1 cup of water.

Pressure cook it for 6 to 8 whistle .
After 6-8 whistle open the pressure cooker.
Give it a good mix. If you see any gravy or ras , you can put the cooker on heat again without lid to make it little more dry. Otherwise you can have it with gravy too.

Drizzle some lemon juice and serve with little finely chopped onion over kala chana.
Kala chana taste awesome with lemon juice and onion.
